Hebrew With Batya
Honoring ancestry, learning with love.
Personalized Hebrew Tutoring for Children, Teens, and Adults.
About Me
Hi, I’m Batya.
For the past eight years I have worked with families through Romemu in New York, guiding students in Hebrew learning and preparing them for their B’nai Mitzvah journeys. I have also supported Hebrew education programs through COJECO while working privately with students and families from a wide range of Jewish backgrounds, including Reform, Renewal, interfaith, and unaffiliated families who want Hebrew learning to feel supportive and meaningful rather than stressful.
I also collaborate comfortably with synagogue educators and clergy when families want tutoring that supports their synagogue program.
Hebrew education has been part of my life from a young age. Both of my parents were Hebrew educators who ran summer and winter camps, Sunday Hebrew schools, and a Jewish day school. As a child, I often helped my mother with younger students experiences that quietly planted the seeds for the work I would later grow into in my own way.
Today, I help children, teens, and adults learn Hebrew in a way that feels calm, supportive, and confidence-building, meeting each student exactly where they are.
I work with young learners building foundational reading skills, teens preparing for Bar and Bat Mitzvah, and adults reconnecting with Hebrew later in life. My teaching is individualized and paced to each student’s learning style and proficiency level, with a focus on steady progress and emotional ease.
Over the years, I have had the joy of working with a wide range of students and families through synagogues, Hebrew schools, Jewish organizations, and private mentorship. I work comfortably with both affiliated and non-affiliated families, including many interfaith households.
I specialize in attuned, personalized learning and have extensive experience supporting students with ADD, dyslexia, autism, and other learning differences. My goal is for every student to feel capable, supported, and proud of what they are learning.
Whether we are practicing Hebrew, preparing for an important milestone, or deepening a connection to Jewish tradition, I aim to create an environment where learning feels meaningful, manageable, and even joyful.
I currently live in Midtown Manhattan with my fiancé and our beloved dog, Lia. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time in nature, ice skating, playing music (violin and guitar), and creating art by hand.

“When I first started working with Batya, I felt really nervous about my Bar Mitzvah because I couldn’t read Hebrew and I wasn’t familiar with the songs. I didn’t think I’d be able to remember everything. Now I have all the tunes memorized, I can recall what I’ve learned easily, and I feel much more confident about my Bar Mitzvah.”
— Eliel, Age 13
Testemonials
“During my first session i thought “how on earth am I supposed to learn all of this new material in time for my Bar Mitzva?” Batya made it super easy to learn and the time went quickly. Batya is very friendly and engaging and made it fun and enjoyable to learn everything. she helped me feel confident and prepared for my Bar Mitzvah.”
— Aaron, Age 13
“Our child learns differently, and Batya understood that immediately. She adapted the lessons in a way that worked, without pressure. The growth in confidence and reading ability has been remarkable.”
— Parent of 4th grader
“I had always wanted to return to Hebrew but felt intimidated starting again as an adult. Batya created a welcoming and respectful learning environment that made it feel possible. I’ve rebuilt skills I thought I’d lost and deepened my connection in ways I didn’t expect.”
— Adult learner
